Desc: The Lost Year: The Untold Story of the Year Following the Crisis at Central High: The school year following the "Crisis at Central High"* of 1957-1958 is considered by many to be the untold story of the Little Rock Desegregation Crisis, as well as the second chapter. In the fall of the 1958 school year, due to remarkable circumstances, all four high schools in Little Rock were closed to avoid integration again. More than 3,600 black and white students were locked out of their high schools, with no education available from their public school district for one entire school year. Students and teachers from Hall High, Central High, Horace Mann and Little Rock Technical School all suffered under this decision. Parents were scrambling to find schools for their teenagers. Temporary classes were taught on television (still a new medium and not found in every home). Many students transferred to schools in other cities and states, living with family members and friends. Strangely, the football programs continued. This film tracks the developing events through interviews with impacted students, teachers and community members, as well as historians and researchers. It flashes back to videos of actual events along with still photography of newspaper articles, advertisements and propaganda of time and still photographs of actual events and people. The film follows some of the students and community members to present day to highlight the impact this 'lost year' had on so many individual lives, families and the community as a whole. * "The Crisis of Central High" refers to the fight between the State and Local Government and the Federal Government to integrate public schools in the southern state of Arkanasas; specifically in Little Rock. Nine black students had to be escorted and protected by Federal troops while numerous government officials and white segregationist protesters attempted to block the integration reforms brought about by the Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education.
